Storage

Bare Portland acquired a 20x20 ft. storage unit, piled from floor to ceiling with items someone packed away. Storage is a three part, year-long exploration and performance project. Alongside a team of writers and performers, we will generate a piece inspired by the contents of our abandoned storage unit, as well as he stories of the may stakeholder in the self-storage industry. Storage is a story of stuff, of inventory and memory, of place and displacement, of transience and permanence and what we pack away.

Coming to Portland Early 2020.

UNBOXING Party: An Interactive Gallery Opening and Project Debut

What stories do we pack away?

Bare Portland acquired a 20×20 ft storage unit piled from floor to ceiling with items someone packed away. We invite you to unpack, honor and discover unit 5549* with us on May 2.

UNBOXING party is the first act in our 2019 performance project, Storage. You can help craft the narrative of this evolving piece by unboxing and exploring with us. What items should take center stage? What shouldn’t see the light of day? What stories do objects tell, and how are they silent?

Bring a friend. Dig through forgotten goods. You might even walk away with an artifact or two.

About Storage: a story of stuff.
Storage is a 3-part exploration and performance project by bareportland. The local performance collective acquired an abandoned storage unit and, alongside a team of writers and performers, will generate a piece inspired by the contents of the unit as well as the stories of the many stakeholders in the self storage industry. Storage is a story of stuff, of transience and permanence, of decadence and deficiency, of inventory and memory, of place and displacement and more. Storage is a work in progress and full of moving parts. Join us for a workshop performance in Winter 2020.

About the Show:
A desperate woman is confined by her husband in hopes to cure her persistent illness. She struggles to find peace as the room’s dingy wallpaper develops a mind of its own. This devised performance fashions a kaleidoscope of one woman’s living death in exquisite captivity. The wallpaper refracts her sense of self, becoming a prism for all of us. Bare Portland collages the wallpaper’s vicious influence through movement, song, and words. Our shadows become our mirrors in this other-worldly adaptation of the classic short story.
